AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college preparatory elective which provides academic, social, and curriculum support for eligibility and admission to a four-year university. The three-main component of the program are: academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities. All classes on campus utilize AVID strategies in addition to the AVID courses.

Advanced Placement (AP)
Advanced Placement (AP) gives students the chance to tackle college-level work while they're still in high school and earn college credit and placement. Coachella Valley High School currently offers 11 AP Courses from 5 different content areas, of which students can take.

Honors
HONOR COURSES:
Honors level courses are accelerated courses meant to prepare students for moving into advanced College Preparatory(CP)or Advanced Placement(AP) level courses.
English Language Arts:
english 9 (honors) - keri arrage
English Honors is a course focusing on reading, researching, and writing about the immigration experiences of people from across the globe, including the Americas. Students read at least eight full biographical or fictional accounts of the immigrant experience during the year. Additionally, each month, the unit includes research, a paper, a project, vocabulary development, and the memorization and oral recitation of a poem or other text. In this course, students improve writing skills, literary analysis, and time management needed for college.

English/ Language Arts
Mathematics
Our Math Department provides students with experiences that will allow them to develop mathematical reasoning and acquire mathematical concepts and skills. The Mathematics department offers a wide range of courses that develop and enhance students’ analytical skills. We offer Common Core courses in Math for Success, Integrated Math 1, Integrated Math II, Integrated Math III, and Pre-Calculus. The Mathematics program of studies includes Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, and honor courses in Integrated Math 1, 2, and 3, which are all excellent preparation for college. Classroom activities include the use of graphing calculators, manipulatives, cooperative learning and project development.
Physical Education
Our PE Department provides an enriched learning environment that has helped countless of students get fit while having fun. We offer a variety of PE courses for our students like dance, aquatics, conditioning/weightlifting, as well as PE1 and PE2. We're extremely proud of our students and staff, who are always eager to learn, create and grow together.
Social Science/ History
Science
Our Science Department provides a varied curriculum that is intended to spike curiosity, provide relevant instruction, and give students opportunities to explore natural phenomena through the lens of science. All courses meet UC A-G requirements for Lab Science (D) and high school graduation. The science department offers courses in Geology, Life Science, Chemistry,and Physics. We also offer AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Environmental science for students seeking a great challenge and a greater understanding of the specific content of each course.
World Language
Our Department of World Languages at Coachella Valley High School offers a challenging and culturally rich program of study in Spanish. Under the guidance of dedicated teachers, students develop an understanding of the language and communicative competence (writing, reading, speaking and listening) through the study of literature, music, art, history and socio-political contexts of Spanish-speaking communities. Our commitment is focused on fostering life-long learners with the 21st century skills (critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity) needed to function effectively in today’s global society.
Academies & Pathways
Coachella Valley High School diligently provides students with access to Career Technical Education (CTE) by means of academic and technical skills needed to succeed in a knowledge- and skills-based economy through our local academy model.CTE courses within our local academy model connect learning in the classroom environment to the real world, focusing on students gaining skills that align with the demands of our local industry sectors. CTE courses are also a great way to explore career options and for some of our academies, be able to earn college credit while enrolled at CVHS.
VAPA
Our Visual and Performing Arts Department (VAPA) at CVHS consists of courses of study in Music (Band, Music Exploration, Piano, Guitar and Chorus), Theater Arts, Fine Art and Ceramics. The teachers are all seasoned professionals with years of study and work in their respective fields. The courses that are offered start with the basics of creating music and art as well as developing performance skills. As student gain technique and skills, they have the ability to progress through advanced classes.
